Earlier this week, Saxon celebrated her second birthday, on the day after her Mom and little sister Samantha came home from the hospital. With all the excitement about little sister, I wanted to make sure Saxon’s birthday wasn’t completely lost in the shuffle.
We did our best to explain what a birthday is, but Saxon could care less about the technicals. If birthday means donuts, cool presents, streamers in your doorway that say “Happy Birthday” and a trip to the aquarium, then it is all good.

my sister meredith was the second person to call to sing “Happy Birthday” to Saxon. During the song, Saxon turned to me and said, “everybody is singing today!”
saxon playing with her new cookware set (which goes great with her little play kitchen). she takes cooking very seriously, especially kitchen safety. when i reached for the tiny cooking pot, saxon stopped me saying, “don’t touch it dad. it’s very hot.” only after retrieving a dad-sized oven mitt from the kitchen could I pick it up. safety first.
While Carey and Samantha were resting, Saxon and I took our first trip to the Dallas World Aquarium. Saxon particularly enjoyed the penguins, sharks and baby crocs (”al-gators”). The two-toed sloth, sleeping in his little hammock, was undisturbed at Saxon’s loud exclamation of, “Hey you! Wake up for Saxon!”
