Chandra Rolanda Xandria Phywanda Ascomond Thomas…or what’s in a name?

With Moseley Girl 2.0 due for arrival in August, we’ve not even begun to think of names. But with the bun in the oven half-baked, it’s probably time to start. Want to play along? Here are some parameters:

It’s a name, not a joke. Do you ever hear a name and wonder, “What was his momma thinkin’?” Fanny Pack, Hugh Jass, Rasp Berry, Ima Hogg and Nice Carr are all actual names listed in the book of Bad Baby Names. Unfortunately, Bad Baby Names is incomplete. How could you leave off one of the all-time worst great bad baby names: Chandra Rolanda Xandria Phywanda Ascomond Thomas, an East Texan who was a client of my father’s. So, no puns or jokes.

Uniqueness. Saxon has a fairly unique first name, but not one-of-a-kind. There’s a fine line between making the next edition of Bad Baby Names and giving the kid a name that’s individualistic. We will again be utilizing the SSA’s Baby Name Database (paid for with your tax dollars), a great resource or fun time-waster for all. The Baby Name Database lists the Top 1000 most popular names, year by year, by state, gender…

For example, here are the Top 10 most popular names for 2006:

Rank
Male name
Female name
1
Jacob
Emily
2
Michael
Emma
3
Joshua
Madison
4
Ethan
Isabella
5
Matthew
Ava
6
Daniel
Abigail
7
Christopher
Olivia
8
Andrew
Hannah
9
Anthony
Sophia
10
William
Samantha

All adorable names, some of which I really like. It’s interesting to note Brittany (aka Britney) peaked in 1991 at #3, but has dropped to #318 in 2006. How far will Britney Brittany fall in 2007? Will Hillary go up or down? Let’s be safe and stay away from anything in the Top 100.

Rhythmic Flow - When actors names don’t flow, what do they do? Change it! Let’s give baby 2.0 a head start with something that has a nice flow to it, but isn’t too sing-songy [Dad, that means Rosalie Moseley is out!]. Think presidential…no, nevermind, Carey says Hussein is a boys name.

March Madness at MoseleyWorld

It’s getting warmer, spring flowers are starting to bloom and there’s all this buzz about brackets. It can only mean one thing: March Madness at MoseleyWorld!

We hope you’ll enter your picks at the MoseleyWorld March Madness Bracket, where you have a chance of winning a cool $5 million.

We’re particulary excited because this year, both schools from the MoseleyWorld fandom are included in the tourney. The Kansas State Wildcats are no stranger to the NCAA Tournament (22 prior tournament bids), but are returning for the first time since 1996. K-State deserves higher than an 11 seed but their loss to A&M [yes, Texas A&M cheated to win the game] in the Big 12 tournament probably cost them. Tune in to see freshman Michael Beasley, the nation’s best player and certain #1 pick in the NBA draft.

Some of you may remember the days Baylor was a basketball powerhouse, Final Fours 2 out of 3 years, including one nat’l championship game. The only problem? Better have a good memory. Kentucky. Rupp. 1948. Baylor’s last NCAA tournament appearance was when (a) Reagan was president (b) gas was $1.08/gal and (c) I was a student at Baylor.

But I’m excited. Fans of Baylor mens’ hoops haven’t had a whole lot anything to be excited about lately. Start typing Baylor Basketball and Google suggests “Baylor Basketball Murder.” Dream with me a moment…imagine Jim Nantz narrating a dreamy story about how far those Bears have come…”from the depths of tragedy…to the Sweet 16.” Ok, I said dream.

So, dream up your picks and enter the MoseleyWorld March Madness Bracket.

MoseleyWorld News + Back from NYC

Well, first some news. In a previous post, we announced the upcoming arrival of the newest addition to the MoseleyWorld family. Thanks to the marvels of modern medicine, we are excited to be able to share that Saxon will soon be a big sister to her little sister. ETA: August 16.

Carey and I just returned from a long weekend trip to New York. Saxon spent her first nights without Mom or Dad. According to Carey’s mom, aka Mimi, we missed Saxon a lot more than she missed us. I guess that’s good, since we did miss her a bunch.

For Christmas, Carey gave me tickets to see Spring Awakening again. We saw the Tony winning musical in September, but I’ll admit being somewhat guilty to being “obsessed” (a term Carey has used to describe my feelings about SA) with Spring Awakening.

photo taken by my sister Meredith, who braved the rain to join us at the theater. Thumb_default

Spring Awakening the musical, is based on a 1891 controversial play, a coming-of-age story which was scandalous in its day. Duncan Sheik (of the hit song “I am barely breathing” fame) wrote the incredible music. The 2nd row seats were awesome! To see a little about Spring Awakening click the link to see a short video. Headed to New York? Don’t miss Spring Awakening!

Also joining us at Spring Awakening, Miss Lindsay Lohan! Who knew? We saw the paparazzi, but missed LiLo. :(

We schlepped all over Manhattan, from Wall Street to 110th. Highlights included seeing the funky new art at the Whitney Biennial, grazing in Chinatown (where dumplings are 5 for $1), shopping at H&M. We had lots of great food, including meals at Fatty Crab in the Meatpacking District, Dim Sum Go Go on the Lower East Side and housemade pasta at Roberto Passon.

The day after we returned, Saxon was sitting on our bed with Carey. When I sat down, Saxon reclined, smiled and looked up to say, simply, “Mama and Dada.” Ahhh…
